From the Debris: A Landscape Exhibition Revived

From the Debris exhibition

The Atrium Annex (east end), 1st Floor, Architecture Building, University of Melbourne

n 1982 the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning at the University of Melbourne staged a landmark exhibition with the title Landscape Australia: an exhibition. Assembled by staff and masters of landscape architecture students, it showcased some of the most important work that had emerged from the incipient landscape architecture profession in Australia in the 1960s and 1970s and provided a snapshot of the state of the field at the beginning of the 1980s. Dr. Andrew Saniga is re-staging the exhibit using the surviving panels so as to re-analyse and re-contextualise the work from a historical perspective. The exhibition will be an opportunity to consider the heritage of the significant landscape projects from the period. Current landscape architecture masters students will consider how they have fared in the intervening period and reflect on their status vis a vis heritage identification, protection and interpretation.
